Chirpy Way

Thurman Homes returns to the Austin Modern Home Tour with an unparalleled home. The Modern Architecture and Design Society highlights modern design, modern architecture, and modern construction in cities across the US and Canada. One local stop on the 2023 tour gives a unique opportunity to glimpse the latest in home energy efficiency. Thurman Homes tour home at Chirpy Way showcases sustainable technology not found elsewhere in the U.S. EcoSmart solution combines community-integrated geothermal with individual solar so this home could actually produce as much (or more) energy than used. When your home is a power plant, you lower the cost of ownership.

This tour home is sold, however, Thurman Homes offers a portfolio of designs in addition to several already under construction. Didn’t make it to the tour? You can visit the Whisper Valley model at 9508 Petrichor anytime to see an example of these power plant homes.

Rob Scott

This home was designed with the young urban individual in mind. This person demands environmentally friendly features and energy efficiency. Thurman Homes selected an infill location for this featured Modern Home to maximize existing city infrastructure and convenience. No sprawl here… Also taking into consideration the site orientation, solar panels are integrated into the roof for optimal exposure. Spray foam insulation below the roof surface helps create a sealed building envelope. These features allow soaring ceilings that translate to open sight lines and volume in the living area and beyond.

The main floor boasts a master and great room, covered porches and attached garage parking – all in a compact footprint. The architect thoughtfully laid out the design to minimize hallways and utilize square footage within the usable spaces. These construction and design features culminate in an efficient building with clean aesthetic of the tenets of modern Austin architecture.

Hanger III

This icon is the latest example of 7-time Austin Modern Homes tour finalist Thurman Homes; building in the heart of this established Austin neighborhood. Infill presents its own unique challenges with mature trees and stringent massing regulations. A floodplain and topography further discouraged development. The strategy to address these challenges incorporates retaining walls and cantilevered deck sections. With over 900 square feet of premium covered and uncovered deck living, the tree-house feel and endless greenbelt can be enjoyed from multiple vantage points. These treetop features inspire the aviation aesthetic that makes this home one of a kind. Plays on volume, glass, and metal are reiterated inside and out for the hangar experience.

Pacana

The Pacana was not, in fact, built into a tree - but it certainly envelops the pecan on site.

This heritage tree provided inspiration for the design. The two-story structure orients toward the feature pecan with glass, sight lines, porches, and decks. The goal being to execute modern design with an appreciation of the natural setting. Nestled between Mueller and Boggy Creek, Pacana at 1116 Richardine is centrally located in vibrant East Austin, where Downtown is less than 15 minutes away, and Franklin's Barbecue is even closer! This 1762 square foot modern home was designed with an urban family in mind and was build with an emphasis on sustainability.
